Col Charles W. Durr Chief of Staff, Ft. Benning, GA COL Charles W. Durr Jr. is the Chief of Staff for the US Army Infantry Center and Fort Benning, Georgia.  He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant of Infantry from the Reserve Officers Training Corps at the University of Florida in 1983.  He has commanded platoon, company, battalion, and brigade organizations in his 25 years of service. He's a paratrooper with service in the 2nd Battalion, 187th Infantry, "Rakkasans," at Fort Kobbe, Panama; 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry, "Devils in Baggy Pants," of the 82d Airborne Division and XVII Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg; and the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Chaffee Arkansas.  He participated in Operations JUST CAUSE in Panama, GOLDEN PHEASANT in Honduras, RESTORE DEMOCRACY in Haiti, IRAQI FREEDOM in Baghdad, and ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan. He commanded the 2nd Battalion, 11th Infantry and the 192nd Infantry Brigade at Fort Benning.  Most recently, Colonel Durr was the Executive Officer to Commander of NATO's International Security Assistance Force in Kabul, Afghanistan, before returning to Fort Benning and the Future Maneuver Center as the Chief of Staff.  He is a graduate of the US Army War College and holds a Masters Degree from the Central Michigan University.  His awards include two Legions of Merit, two Bronze Stars, Defense and Army Meritorious Service Medals, Master Parachutist Badge with Combat Jump Star, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Expert Infantryman's Badge, Ranger Tab, Department of Defense and Army Staff Badges, and four foreign decorations.  He is married to M'Lynda Sorenson Durr of Kerrville, Texas, a former Army LTC and Medical Specialist Corps officer.  They have a 14 year old son, Charles III, a Life Boy Scout and freshman at Pacelli High School in Columbus.
