Dr. Kendall A. Blanchard

Kendall Blanchard is the President of Georgia Southwestern State University. Prior to his coming to the University, Dr. Blanchard
served as Professor of Business and Anthropology at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, having earlier served that institution
for several years as President.  Before that, he served in other capacities: as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Tennessee at Martin,  as Dean of Arts and Sciences at Lamar University (Texas), as Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Emporia State University (Kansas), and as Chair of the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work at Middle Tennessee State University. 

Dr. Blanchard is a cultural anthropologist specializing in the anthropology of sport, the anthropology of religion, and applied anthropology.  He has worked in the Native American community (e.g., Navajos and Mississippi Choctaws), in Japan, and in Estonia. 

His published works include eight books, one of which, The Anthropology of Sport, has been published in five languages.  In addition he has written numerous chapters in books and encyclopedias, journal articles, and unpublished papers which have been presented at
professional meetings. 

Dr. Blanchard has a BA degree from Olivet Nazarene College, an MDiv degree from Vanderbilt University, and an MA and PhD from Southern Methodist University.  In addition he completed a year of post-doctoral study at Johns Hopkins University. 

He is married to Dr. Connie Garcia Blanchard, a linguist, award winning professor, and college administrator. Together they have five children and three grandchildren.
